O uso do “ç” em substantivos derivados de verbos terminados em “ter” é uma característica comum em português. Normalmente, o “ç” é usado para preservar o som do “s” na derivação.

A regra geral é que, ao derivar um substantivo a partir de verbos terminados em”-ter”,adiciona-se o sufixo “-ação” a raiz do verbo, oque frequentemente leva à inserção do “ç” para manter a pronuncia correta.
