Laura and Kate- Outline how a package holiday is a 'product' of the travel and tourism industry.

One of the most common products sold in travel and tourism is the package holiday. A package holiday is built by a tour operator by buying seats on an air craft and beds in a hotel, plus transfers and possibly visits to attractions.
The tour operator sells this product through a travel agent, or more commonly now directly to the public.
This means that package holidays are a product of travel and tourism because it benefits the travel and tourism industry.

Evaluate the possible effects of a 'weak pound' on inbound tourism in the Uk. Patrick and Patrick

A weak pound is defined as follows: when the value of the pound is low against another currency, relative to where it’s been in the past. Therefore when the pound is 'weak' more inbound tourists are inclined to travel to the UK, this is due to the fact that they get cheaper deals on their flights and accommodation due to the exchange rates. In turn, this results in inbound tourists having more holiday spending money, which actually results in more money being spent in the UK by inbound tourists. However, the weak pound isn't beneficial for outbound tourists for the UK, as they loose money during the exchange rate. This was highlighted especially in the months after the Brexit movement of 2016.

Explain the main differences between commercial and non-commercial organisations in the travel and tourism industry. Matthew and Ben

There are many differences between commercial and non-commercial organisations. One major difference would be that commercial organisations aim to make a profit from the goods and services they provide e.g. larger business such as Virgin Atlantic and British airways are having turnovers of millions of pounds. Whereas non-commercial organisations are normally funded by the public and their staff are usually volunteers. Non-commercial organisations aim to send all their profits to organisations such as charities. Non-commercial organisations such as VisitBritian is funded by the government and most if not all profits are funded back into the business in order for them to grow and expand to improve their help to the tourists and local tourist information centres are funded by the public and all profits go towards charities.
Commercial organisations are usually run by sole traders(one person running a business), partnerships(2-20 people running a business) or LTD(private limited companies) where as Non-commercial organisations are usually PLC(public limited company) or franchise(one owner but many of the same business) run businesses.

Assess the contribution the internet has made to providing information for tourists - Anna and Ethan - DREAM TEAM SHS

The contribution that the internet has made for providing information for tourists has increased. There has also been an large increase with travel websites, an example of this is last minute.com and Expedia. This allows these tourists to book a flights from the comfort of their home. Not only that but they can also look for a specific type of accommodation that suits them rather than have a travel agents book accommodation that is not suited. The internet also allows tourists to view online brochures and inspect resorts and accommodation with webcams and price comparisons. Major airlines like Ryanair and EasyJet and encourage booking online with cheap quick online deals, this also avoids commission costs that travel agents add on! The internet also allows updated discounts and can provide conformation of booking within seconds. Major airlines websites allow the public to see their prices and flight schedules to give tourists more information. The internet gives tourists the ability for online checking in and self check in which allows them to choose the seat that they want to seat on. Websites also allow for a manage your booking facility which allows passengers to change their seat. To conclude the internet has made a positive impact on the way people use air travel as it can remove worry.

Outline the advantages and disadvantages computer technology has brought about for the travel and tourism industry ~ Emma and Jake

Computer technology has brought many positives along with negatives to the industry of travel and tourism.
Firstly the advantages of the employment of computer technology within this sector is that booking a flight, boat trip etc. has been made easier and more accessible to a wider range of tourists. By doing this tourists are also given the opportunity to explore more options that may be available to them that they may not have been able to access if they had gone through a travel agent. This allows tourists to experience more freedom when booking and experiencing their trip whether it be for leisure, business or any other means of tourism. Many popular airlines, like Ryanair and EasyJet, have also established special discounts for those who book their flights online to encourage more to do so which benefits those who may be working on a strict budget when planning to travel. A huge advantage that many find extremely beneficial as it allows passengers to access options they wouldn't have been able to experience before the introduction of computer technology including choosing their seat and printing their boarding card before they even reach the airport. This variety of independence which has recently become available to tourists allows them to be more organised and prepare their trip in greater detail than what would've been achieved before the enrolment of this factor. The expansion of computer technology also provides a wide range of research options which adds to their additional knowledge, planning and preparing before embarking of their trip. Tourists now have access to develop their knowledge on weather, price drops on flights, popular tourist activities and attractions and many more other options. This enables tourists to enjoy their trip and engage in better planning and preparation to reduce stress.
Along with advantages also comes disadvantages which creates division of opinions among many tourists. Although booking holidays and trips online, many question whether they are actually receiving as much knowledge from computer technology as they would from a travel agent. There is also an increasing threat of fraud among booking online which can also put people off from booking trips online. The protection of money is also questioned when transferring money online an booking flights which overall questions its validity.

Identify and explain how the jobs of people working in the travel and tourism industry have changed as a result of technological developments- Alana and Sarah

There are many different reasons as to why the jobs of the people working in travel and tourism industries has changed. As little as twenty years ago all booking for holiday abroad where made at travel agents, due to the lack of online resources on foreign holidays and countries, but in recent years there has been an increase in these online resources, due to the vast improvement in technology.
The growth of the internet and access to devices at home has had a significant impact on tourism through travel agents. Booking websites such last minute.com, Expedia and booking.com have made it easier through the click of a button to book a getaway in the comfort of their own home.
Booking foreign holidays has also been made easier through the use of the internet. Travel organisations such as Ryanair and EasyJet both popular budget airlines have made it more appealing to book online as it offers customers discounts if they book with them online. It has also changed the amount of people booking through travel agents as it allows customers to complete online transactions for the holiday safely and securely at home. Also the increase of the use of the internet when booking has impacted the jobs of the airport check in staff as the internet has made it easier and possible to check in and print off boarding passes online at home, before they go.
Due to the increase of people booking online, this has had an impact on the travel agents and has caused some closures and downsizes as there are a reduced amount of funds going into the businesses, for example Brain summers in Saintfield had to downsize and Down travel in Downpatrick was shut.

Evaluate the effects of a strong for inbound tourists to the UK Jacon

A strong pound means for countries outside the United Kingdom wishing to travel into the UK that it will be more expensive as the pound is stronger than other currencies such as euro or dollar. After post Brexit the pound has became weak and before Brexit it was usually stronger than other currencies. This would be a huge disadvantage for tourists wanting to travel to UK as it will be expensive as they will be paying more than they would usually have to pay in the country they live in. Furthermore , this might put tourists off going to the UK as it will mean paying more and they could go to somewhere where that countries currency isn't as strong. This would be an advantage to the UK economy as people will be spending money on services and merchandise while in the UK. There would be more negative effects for inbound tourists rather than positive effects when there is a strong pound.
