Reduces likelihood of war.
As countries tend to specialise in the goods which they have a comparative advantage over other countries, in the long run the cost of producing other products will increase. Free trade forces countries to be reliant on other countries, increasing the cost of starting a war, therefore reducing the chances of war.

Free trade can also help Domestic Producers in manufacturing based nations that import their raw materials from other countries. This is because, free trade decreases the cost of production for producers as they can import their raw materials for a lower cost. For example, more than half of the US' imported goods are materials rather than consumer goods, and free trade allows them to import these goods for a cheaper price, encouraging growth.

Producers have less opportunity cost when deciding which products to make because the products they make more efficiently/have a great comparative advantage of are easier to make in free trade economies. Other products that they are not as efficient at making can be imported. Singapore with computer chips and other electronics. Good at making computer chips - can focus on that while other electronics are imported.

Free trade can open a domestic market to a global market, increasing competition. This forces more efficient production of a certain good and increases its quality, which benefits the consumers in that economy.

E.g.: Malaysia protected a car company (Proton) from outside producers. When the market became free, the quality of Proton cars was drastically increased in response to overseas competition.

Free trade is able to provide a wider variety of choices of goods and services to domestic consumers. There may be situations where imported goods are more affordable than domestic goods. Imported goods may also be of the latest technology and innovation. The use of these goods allow the social growth of a country to move forward.

Since domestic firms have to maintain their profit, they will come up with more effective and efficient measures; producing products in a higher quality with lower costs.
Increased competitions can encourage countries to specialise in certain industrial sectors
