This shows she is independent because her mother is extremely religious, and got Beneatha a hard slap on the face for denying God, and breaking free to her own beliefs.

Beneatha knows what she wants, and she knows how to get it, even if she has to be rude about it. I always tend to connect to her, agree with, and sympathize her. She is a good person and knows just how to get what she wants in life. I respect that.
