Some questions I have about the book are things like what inspired Jack to remain friends with Auggie even though it was far from the popular decision. Another question I had regarding this book involved Julian. My question was, was Julian mean to Auggie because he wanted to be cool, or was it because he's just a mean dude? My last question was, why do kids like to pick on the minority? Those were the three main questions I was thinking about while reading this book.

While I was reading this book some connections that occurred to me include things like how there have been kids that were bullied due to differences at schools that I have been at. I also connected with August's sister Via. This is because, like via, I have a younger sibling that does not fit in. And in the past I have had to push him to do things he was not necessarily comfortable with. Those were the only major connections that my personal life had to the book.

Throughout the book some of the inferences I made included the following. The first one was this, I inferred that August had a very difficult child hood before and after the book took place. This wasn't a very hard conclusion to come to considering the extremities of his facial deformity. The second and final inference I made was that August was less mature than his peers when he joined middle school. I came to this conclusion because he seemed desperate to make friends, ect.

Throughout this book I had many chances to visualize what I was reading. This book especially forces the reader to visualize. I say this because they vaguely describe the main character (Auggie). This forces the reader to imagine what he looked like with his facial deformity. The book also gives the reader plenty of chances to picture the school, other characters, and the entire town.

The book wonder starts off with our main character August who, because of birth defects, was born with a facial deformity that was so severe it often terrified other children. He had always been home schooled, and is preparing to move into the harsh environment of middle school. In the begging three kids are assigned to show him around the school. One became his best friend, the other become a good friend and the last turned out to be a complete jerk. The rest of the book consists of a lot of middle school drama. And in the end their's a big fight with other schools at a nature retreat, and mostly everyone becomes friends with august.

Throughout the story a variety of changes occur in the main character (August) here is a brief list of just a few of those changes. In the begging, he is nervous and pretty quite. But as he starts to make a few friends he becomes more confident and starts to show his true personality (funny "nerdy" and social) and this trend continues through the book until the end.

The book wonder has a theme that is clearly there but difficult to pick out. So after some contemplation, I picked out an overall theme that is this. "In life, there will be trials, and you can decide whether or not you persevere through them into a better story, or you can let them push you down."

The plot of Wonder was well thought out and executed well. Here are some of the things that happened throughout the book. The exposition starts with auggie telling the reader a little about his life story. THen the book really starts when the entire family is in the car and the parents are discussing sending him off to a real school for the first time. The rising action occurs when they all make the choice to send August to school. At school he gets bullied and middle school drama ensues. The climax takes place during the end of the book when the 5th graders are at a nature retreat with a bunch of other schools. At the retreat, A bunch of the kids from the other schools start picking on August. In the end all of his classmates stand up for him and a fist fight follows. The book is then wrapped up nicely with the end of the year and the principal making a speech.

The author (R.J. Palacio) does an excellent job of making the life of Auggie come alive. She writes in a more lighthearted way, and makes a relatively boring topic fun to read. I enjoyed reading this author's work and would read other books she put out.

I think the author did a fantastic job, and I think the storyline was great. I also think the author did a very good job with making a down to earth middle school boy. I would rate the book seven out of ten.
