This project produced the first nuclear weapons. It was led by the United States with the help of the United Kingdom and Canada. It was under the direction of Major General Leslie Groves (U.S Army Corps of Engineers), and Robert Oppnheimer (A Nuclear physicist who was the director of the place that actually designed the bombs). Two types of atomic bombs were made and used during the war. One was a simple Gun type fission weapon, and the other being a complex implosion type nuclear weapon. This project also gathered intelligence on the German nuclear weapon project. Yes, it's a very hard decision because you are ultimately killing innocent lives. But what if Japan fired first? They would've killed innocent people as well. No matter if we bombed them first or they bombed us, people would've been killed it.
