Give the classes a bunch of test taking strategies. Share in class and through REMIND positive affirmations to them each day leading up to and the day of. Do practice exercises (including a web quest) and review before M-Step.

To help with sustained reading skills, have them silently read parts of the chapter and have them share out the main ideas and ask them questions on the details. Use T4 with the tests and while reviewing the chapter tests, do a "think aloud" with the T4 strategies. Use Bell Ringers or Bell Work with examples of questions and use different testing strategies to figure out the correct answers. Use of Deep Critical Reading strategies with primary sources is used when we finish a chapter to get to the first hand account of someone/ contract/ law that was from that time and event in history.

Send a sheet home with the students for the parents with a list of beneficial things for the students to do a week before the M-STEP ( ie.. good night sleep, good breakfast). Have the students leave all electronic distractions in locker/at home. M-STEP Practice should be done beforehand and on the same computers and in the same manner as the actual test.
Provide a school-wide motivator. If the school averages a certain percentage on the M-STEP, Malow will give the students a fun pep assembly, etc.
