Is an allusion of the story of Icarus and Daedalus.This shows that the father is very worried for the son and is overthinking about his son, the representation of Icarus flying "too high" up in the sky and therefore may believe that something bad has happened to his son.

For fallen feathers, it is relating to how Icarus died and is not there anymore. The mother is missing the son as if he died like Icarus.
