         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Sam’s teacher opted to try using a checklist with Sam, which was a good option to pick because Sam’s problem seems to be one of disorganization rather than inattention or miscomprehension. Creating a method of organization is a good remedy for the perceived problem, and Sam appears to adhere to it at first. But without supervision, Sam is proving unreliable at following up with his concurrent assignments. The checklist reminds Sam of his upcoming responsibilities, but he appears to need reminding to check his reminders. Sam’s checklist still has value in the effort to correct his behavior, but it will not be able to correct the behavior by itself.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; I would suggest combining the checklist with the additional strategy of timed check-ins with Sam. It appears that now that the checklist is implemented, Sam’s problem is staying focused and on-task. Using a timer, Sam’s teacher should set a quiet alarm for every 15-20 mins, and check on Sam at each interval, and redirect back to task if necessary. His teacher should ensure that she is referring to the checklist when redirecting Sam, and discuss his progress on the list with him. The desired outcome is that once Sam becomes accustomed to checking his checklist at short, regular intervals with the teacher, he will be able to transition to using this strategy without the teacher’s supervision.<br><br></div>]]></description>

This strategy is a good one because it will help with their frustration, lack of concentration, and his horseplay in class. First of all, this strategy will be extremely helpful to deal with the frustration Sam feels with writing. This extra time can allow Sam to ask questions and understand the material. Second of all, this strategy will be a good way to improve his concentration with writing. This extra time can also assist with making him more focused because he will have additional time to work on his assignments. Additionally, having more time is also a way of having more one on one time with Sam. This can allow Sam to have the assistance he needs outside of class. Third of all, it will help prevent unnecessary horseplay. The extra time will allow more time with the teacher and allow him to have additional feedback in regard to his tasks at hand. The strategy the teacher used of having more time made Sam less frustrated, more focused, and prevented unnecessary horseplay. These strategies are beneficial to Sam because they encourage him to stay motivated and organized. The checklist can also hold Sam accountable because he has the ability to check off what he has completed while also being able to see what still needs to be done. Sam also struggles to stay organized in class, the planner is helpful because it organizes the assignments that need to be completed for his group work. Meeting with his teacher will ensure that Sam is staying on task and that he is on track with his checklist and planner.</div><div>Part 2:&nbsp;</div><div>An additional strategy Sam’s teacher can utilize is meeting with him daily to have him work on creating his own planning techniques. This strategy can help him to have control of what he believes he can finish each day/week. Having him set his own intentions and goals can encourage him to take charge of his individual education. It will also allow him to slowly become more on task each week because he will have an understanding of what he can complete. Using this strategy will help support Sam in his learning because it will help him be more organized. Along with this, together with the group and the teacher, they created a checklist with all the tasks assigned for each member. This is beneficial for Sam because the group is very supportive and encouraging on getting Sam to focus and get his work done. Sam is able to make connections with people he knows and is comfortable with, especially if the rest of the group tries to be focused on completing their project. Along with encouraging Sam, this also helps improve Sam’s discipline and problem solving techniques, by having the group pressure him to get his work complete before the due dates. This will help Sam gain responsibility for his work and will push him to help his classmates complete their project.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Part 1</div><div>A strategy a teacher uses to help Sam be successful in his learning is writing the due dates on his planner for each task that needs to be completed. This is a good strategy for Sam, because he struggles with completing assignments on time. By doing this it will help him stay focused and organized with his assignments. Also, by seeing the time and due dates it helps give a visual representation on where he is at in his schedule and keeping Sam accountable for turning in his work on time.</div><div><br></div><div>Part 2</div><div>One additional strategy Sam teacher could have used to help Sam be successful in his learning is allowing short breaks, after completing each assignment, or after 20-30 minutes of focused work. By having Sam have short breaks and getting up to walk around, can help Sam reset his focus &amp; attention and not get distracted.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Sam is a fifth grade student that often struggles with organization and memorizing assignments, his teacher provides a written planner to try and help him succeed. The purpose behind the teacher utilizing a planner is to help Sam keep track of what is coming up and what is due. This planner is an effective tool to execute the students personal struggles with organization and successfully completing assignments in a timely manner. He needs both guidance and support from the teacher in order to be more successful in the classroom. This is a strong strategy to first expose and familiarize Sam with organization tools that can be used throughout his schooling.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Although the planner is effective and has good intentions, it needs to be advanced to the next level to&nbsp; ensure Sam is taking accountability and not being so dependent on his teacher. In order to further his success, Sam needs to begin taking on the responsibility of writing in his planner and completing the checklist on his own. Weekly check-ins need to be done with Sam to recognize if he is completing the task at hand. In order for him to grow as a student, he needs to take accountability and learn to use the resources on his own with guidance and support when needed. Monthly meetings with student, teachers, and family can also be implemented to target his struggles and provide academic interventions to better help him.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
