Shahna the daugther is correcting her father in the way he speaks. In the islamic culture it is not normal for the women, and especially not the children to correct the head of the family. When he, the father, confronts her and says: "No more english in this house", she says: "You said that last time" Which means she already once has been disobediant. She rips the magazine out of her fathers hand, which according to me interprets that she is ripping the power and the respect away from her father.
 
 In this clip it is clear to see that Shahna wants to be more than just the obedient wife, she challenges the fathers authority. Shahna has been affected by the environment that she lives in. That is shown by the fact that she speaks better english than Bengal. In this clip it is also noticeable that the wife, and protagonist stops the father from "Beating" her. Maybe because the protagonist, sees herself in the daughter.
