When you add the variance in English skills/abilities and tech skills, the items I need to teach and build into routines multiply very fast. With the new Content--which I love-- the pacing seems too fast for level 1. It's week 4 and I am just beginning to introduce Lit Elements. I lose the kids if I go too fast, so we are working on Characterization this week. We'll do Setting Week 5, Conflict Week 6, and Plot week 7. 
   I'd like to know how this sits with you in terms of your expectations for pacing. I try to have differentiated tasks for the various levels in the class, but there is little time to write double lessons. The lesson framework you provided is very helpful. Yet I still have to write an entire lesson.

Would it not be more effective to have a theme-based curriculum, where each skill area of the curriculum is connected to a theme? In addition, themes could be chosen, catering to the interests of our student body. Using a theme-based curriculum would enable teachers to follow student interests; the time spent on a specific theme could be lengthened or shortened, accordingly.
