Scientific knowledge in Blood Transfusion and some Haematology I believe is essential in the Transfusion Practitioner's role. This knowledge adds dimension to the tasks we perform such as reaction investigations, delivering education to clinical staff on 'why' and 'how'. This could be incorporated into the levels of practice aspect of career development.
