 It’s Carmel here (my space is on the 2^nd floor, by the kitchen – the one with the big colourful armchair). I’m going to be sending round a monthly update with studio news from the Studio Coordinators, Milly and Bear, and from the executive team (Catherine, Livvy and Bev). Catherine will still be sending out her lovely newsletter on a seasonal basis.

This update will mostly be boring and practical things about the studio. This is because we now have a virtual community board called Padlet for all the other more exciting things! (as you will know, if you are reading this on padlet!)

For those of you, like me, who are unfamiliar with it, you use it like a notice board. It is super easy. All you do is click on the + and type (or add pictures and other things if you are some kind of tech genius). It can be used to share anything, just like whatsapp group, but it looks nicer and the info easier to keep track of. You don’t need to log in or register or do anything complicated unless you really want to.

Padlet will hopefully provide a good place to share ideas and to get some social things happening in the studio community. Use it to share news, social things, ideas, work and anything you like. E.g. I’m making pea soup today/ does anyone fancy a pint/ I have a piece of string, a dead mouse and a dirty mug in my studio if anyone wants them…

So, on with the updates:

Today is the last day to express interest in the writers studio space on the 2^nd floor. Contact M&B (millyandbear@haarlemartspace.co.uk)

Good news! The directors have secured us some funding and a newly converted communal kitchen space is on the way! Let M&B know if you have any ideas about this space. There will hopefully also be enough money for some minor maintenance jobs, so get in touch with suggestions for this too, and they’ll add it to the wish list.

Goodbye to Rose, Beth, Angus, Arthur and Richard. It has been lovely to hang with you and good luck in all your adventures to come!

Cleaning! (I told you this was going to be boring…) Please help keep Haarlem nice by taking the bins out when they are full and keeping communal areas clean. Recycling needs to go home with you and bin bags and cleaning materials are stocked in the ground floor entrance toilet/ utility area. M&B are also planning to make utility areas on the other two floors.

Mice. Traps are sadly being put down in the ground floor. Bear has the glamorous job of checking them each day. Traps may have to be moved into peoples spaces. Not fun, but hopefully something we can get sorted…

SOUP! COMMUNAL SOUP! Any flavour, any maker, and any day at 1pm. If you want to make soup for the masses please pop a message on padlet (and/or whatsapp). My sources tell me that a bid is currently in with the Arts Council for our very own handheld Haarlem blender. Last time I checked we had a big saucepan and a ladle and a few herbs and spices in the cupboard – please feel free to add to the soup store!

Karen has offered to be the studio plant guardian. She will be watering and taking care of all the studio greenery. Thanks Karen!

CALL FOR INVIGILATORS!
Haarlem still needs invigilators for the May exhibition. It will be running May 7 till June 5. There are am and pm slots.
 Please contact Catherine or Livvy with interest and preferred dates.
