They all dressed in black to represent the Black Panthers. They came together after the assassination of Malcolm X. They had roughly about 2,000 members. Who came up with the 10-point program for their goals. Many people saw them as a gang but they really just wanted to try to get more afircan american people into political office.

Newton was born in Louisiana but he grew up in California. He joined many groups during college to help against the mistreatment of African-Americans but later on he made the Black Panthers for self-defense.  He believes that violence would probably be needed to make a bigger social change within the country. He was going to be trialed for murder and then she ran off to Cuba and eventually came back to go to his trial. He died by being shot by Tyrone Robinson Remember the black Guerrilla family and drug dealer.

Oct. 28, 1967- Panther Minister of Defense Newton is involved in a shootout with Oakland police after a traffic stop.
April 8, 1968 — 17-year-old Panther treasurer Bobby Hutton is killed by police after a violent confrontation in West Oakland. 
Sept. 8, 1968 — A jury acquits Newton of murder but convicts him of voluntary manslaughter. He is sentenced to two to 15 years.
Aug. 5, 1970 — After his first conviction is overturned, Newton is released on $50,000 bail pending retrial.
Sept. 1973 — The Oakland Community School opens to educate the children of the Panthers. Capacity of 150 kids is soon reached.
Aug. 22, 1989 — Newton, 47, is shot to death on a West Oakland street by gang member Tyrone Robinson, allegedly over a drug deal.
