This is a time to learn the warning signs, normalize seeking help, and remind people that proven treatments do work. Suicide is complex and can be caused by many factors, including mental illness, substance misuse, chronic illness, trauma, painful losses, exposure to violence, and social isolation.

Take action if you notice these signs in a family member, friend, neighbor, coworker, or anyone else. Suicide risk is greater if a behavior is new, has increased, or seems tied to a painful event, loss, or major change.
