He couldnt stay at any popular hotel, often forced to sleep in black boarding houses. Resturants he played out would not serve his band food and made them enter and exit throught the back of the resturant, keeping them in the place for a little time possible. Eventually in 1961 he wouldnt play for a segregated audience ever again.
