While searching for inspiration, I received some feedback from our directors to try to keep the costumes as authentic as possible. Keeping that in mind, I tried to look for costumes that will be easier to recreate successfully.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/45387908725256657/
http://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/fashion/style/a36910/clueless-20th-anniversary-cher-horowitz-best-outfits/
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/300404237628501606/
https://www.bustle.com/articles/79111-recreate-7-cher-horowitz-signature-looks-for-spring-because-clueless-fashion-is-the-best-fashion
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/22166223149540569/

The costumes for Clueless are very unique and different compared to any other characters costumes that I have designed. The female character costumes are very detailed and I will need to make specific costume pieces to include the details. Unfortunately, although I looked through thrift stores and the costume room, I was not able to find the exact, or even similar pieces for some of the iconic costumes (Cher's yellow/black plaid suits, Dionne's hat, etc). My main costume ideas were the more simple costumes, because I knew they would be much easier to find. However, I really did want to include the signature outfits, but just wasn't able to. I also decided to sketch each design for the main characters, to have a better idea of what it would look like. I tried incorporating as much plaid as possible, to pay tribute to some of the most well known costumes.
Here are the costume designs for the 4 main characters.

Although I could not see every cast member's outfit. I had mine and I made sure everyone had the right costume pieces. However, I tried considering the lightning fast costume changes and how it would be impossible to change an entire outfit while in the wings. So instead of having two outfits, I decided to scrap the white dress idea. Instead I decided to swap it with a white/grey zip up skirt that I can put over the plaid skirt.
I also had to chance the design of Dionne's costume because we were not able to find a plaid shirt to wear underneath of the dress

However, on the night of the performance I found the perfect skirt for Dionne's second outfit. Jodie (the actress playing Dionne) was able to find a maroon dress and put a white blouse underneath it. Tai's outfits were in order and we had a perfect transition for her makeover scene. Cher's outfits were also changed a bit in order to work with the snap costume changes. The actress wore a dress as her first layer, with a cardigan, and a skirt right over it. For the first party scene I paired her outfit with a over sized jean jacket. For the final scene of the party, she stripped away the jean jacket, cardigan and the skirt to reveal the white dress.
