- Perceptual region, from the beginning of mining the population was composed of the local people called ”momârlani” and the population that came with the construction of the railway and industrial development of mining in the 60s in 19th century.

- most relevant would be the formal region in the sense that all the component cities of Jiu Valley should be united in a single administrative unit, in order to talk about the city of Jiu Valley instead of a region. In this way, the city would become more important for the West part of Romania and would gain more investments from a domestic and foreign dimension.

- Natives of Jiu Valley: Momârlani - but the distinction is no longer existent
- population from mining population
- the orthodox region
- researchers/students (Petroșani University)

Are these region types aligned with the mainstream narratives?
- They are aligned at a point when we speak about identity in Jiu Valley, but if we refer at a practice level of policies that can solve the problems from a governmental perspective, it is not really aligned.
