Cat, your "House on Bakers Street" is the perfect example of how a dialogue lead can draw a reader in! I loved reading the story, and I admire the skill with which you crafted your sentences and paragraphs. You've got some great examples here to share with your students about how an author can make choices in punctuation that really contribute to style and detail. One favorite: "Under their care, the corner house thrived: vegetables that grew in their garden were plump, juicy, and full in color, bumblebees bounced between flowers fulfilling their role of pollinator, and their charm drew the town into a close knit community." Thank you for sharing your creativity here! --Tracy Kriese

-Good to hear from you Tracy! Thank you so much for you positive feedback. I had a lot of fun writing this piece, and i am excited to take it to different places! Thank you for confirming that it can be used as a mentor text.

"Brains are designed to reflect the environment they're in, not rise above them." This is such a profound statement, and one with implications for raising children and not just educating them. I'll make note of the research you shared here for future reference. Your students are fortunate to have a teacher who is studying a topic so relevant to their success! --Tracy Kriese

- I'm glad you were able to have a tangible takeaway from the research! I'm excited to implement some of these things in my classroom for the upcoming year as well.

Terrific descriptors through both stories. I have always liked your ability to describe things, and both the memory and mystery exhibit that very well. I'd love to chat about these more when we're together. The Poverty graphic was also informative, even for a passive observer. I'll keep the tips for teachers/staff in mind for my everyday life. Thank you! --Marion
