My book Wuthering Heights begins with the narrator Mr.Lockwood writing in his diary. Lockwood is returning from a visit to his landlord. He talks about how beautiful England is as a country.  He is new to Wuthering Heights & his landlord is Mr. Heathcliff. Thrushcross Grange is where Lockwood is renting a room from Heathcliff’s. At the beginning of the book, it’s somewhat hard to understand what’s going on in the first chapter. I think it’s because he starts the book with his diary entry from 1801. The way he talks about Heathcliff when he first meets him is confusing because Heathcliff does not shake his hand but, Lockwood still considers Heathcliff a gentleman. “ As I rode up, and when his fingers sheltered themselves, with a jealous resolution, still further in his waistcoat, as I announced my name” (pg. 1). It seems as though Heathcliff doesn't really want Lockwood there. This was a bad way to start the story because he leads with present events instead of past events. It probably would've made more sense if he'd lead with the story of Heathcliff first because I couldn’t really tell who the main character was. As you read more into the chapters you realize Heathcliff is the main character, not Lockwood.
