He was born in Italy and died in Spain. He was an explorer, navigator, and colonizer. Columbus looked for sponsors because he wanted to make a new voyage. He asked for help from Portugal and England but they refused him. But that didn't stop him. He sailed with great explorers such as Henry Hudson, Lewis and Clark, and John Glenn, guiding them on their journeys. Cartier sailed west from France across the Arctic Ocean, he then named the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. He then claimed what is now Canada for France. Jacques Cartier was also the first European to describe and map the Gulf of Saint Lawrence
