Domestic violence is when physical and psychological harm occurs within relationships.  Violence and intimidation is done with intent to do damage to the other person.

Who does domestic violence affect?
It can occur in any relationship.  Husbands, wives, ex relationships, family members, friends, children, partners, boyfriends and girlfriends.

What kinds of things does domestic violence involve?
* Financial abuse
* Sexual abuse
* Psychological abuse
* Emotional abuse
* Physical violence
* Gaslighting
* Social and family isolation
There may be other behaviours experienced too.

What other behaviours may be a part of domestic violence?
* Finances may be cut off when you don't obey the other person
* Physical violence is carried out on animals in front of you
* Dangerous driving is used to make you feel unsafe and them in control of you
* You are isolated from direct family
* Your keys get stolen so that you are unable to leave the house when you have been abused
* Forced sexual contact
* They threaten to self harm if you leave the relationship
* Intimidation and threatening behaviour, stalking.
* Continuous phonecalls, mistrusting behaviour

These are only a few of the things which you may have experienced.  It is not normal to feel unsafe in a relationship, but it is ok to talk about it and ask for help. We have developed a safe space here to help people like you.
