I really like how he takes a plain boring every day object and makes it into a unique designed art piece by doing something so simple and original.

I think that this style would go well onto one of my own cup designs because I prefer drawing myself and think it's both simple and creative.

John Cullen creates work that features both artwork and entertainment. He is mostly known for creating comic strips, which he decided to turn into a mobius strip.

He wanted to find a way, in which he could turn his drawings into an actual physical object, that would have to be 'Manipulated' by the readers to see the whole thing.

Cullen has presented the comic mobius strip in a clear way because he has not twisted it too many times and he uses black and white which allows him to take the focus off of the colours and put the focus onto the designs.

I really like how he has done this so I think it is very successful and unique, even though some of his comics are based from other stories that he changes to make his own.

His work will inspire some of my ideas because I want people to have to focus on what it on the design and look at how it all fits together. I think creating a mini comic story could be effective because it has a more inventive approach to the work.

My first idea for the blackout poetry is to find a text that I can understand easily and then look for words that I think can work with the theme well.

For this poem I have used a black ink pen to draw a box around the chosen words and the scribble the rest of the text out. The reason for scribbling it all out is because it empathize the theme more and highlights the positive and negative words more, adding a deep and meaningful feel to the poem.

The idea behind this piece it that it speaks about life and how "it is not death" so I decided to pick out words which create a happier feel to the idea of death after life.

I have used red to represent the love or anger you could potentially have, and drawn a tree with the gravestone in front because I wanted to show that even though it might be negative and sad it could also become something new. The tree grows where the gravestone is so its adding life where there wasn't.

What I have done for my first design, is coloured it in so that it creates a tie dye effect and done the same on the back so that when it is stuck together it just looks like a spiral of colours.

I really like how bright and eye catching this design is and it is successful in a way that it all stays together and has to be manipulated to read.
However one thing that could have been improved about this piece was that the letters could have had a tiny border around then because when I cut it out it didnt all hold together.

As a solution to this, i ended up having to use double sided tape to stick some letters to each other, which acturally worked really well.

Gaslighting is form of emotional abuse that is seen in abusive relationships. It's the act of manipulating a person by forcing them to question their thoughts, memories and events occurring around them.

The term gaslighting originated from the British play/film Gas Light in 1938. This term is now used in a clinical psychological literature as well as in political commentary and philosophy.

In the play the husband uses the gas lights to dim his own lights, which he then makes his wife believe it was all in her imagination when she had asked about them. The term is used to refer to that specific type of manipulation and is well know for it.

https://www.kenwright.com/portfolio/gaslight/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2018/04/05/what-is-gaslighting-7443188/amp/

I think that this piece could have been better as I prefer how the colours went on the development because they blended together better, and I could see how the paints worked differently in the final one.

I would have preferred it if I was able to add intricate details instead of slight highlighted outlines because in the development it looked really complete, however this is still a good outcome with strong uses of my chosen colour so I would think that it is a good interpretation.

During this colour studies project, I have learnt a lot about colours and how it influences the things we see.

I have also been happy to be able to pick a colour of my own choice and create some diffent ideas based around the use of that one colour.

For my own final outcome I decided to take foward a couple of my original paintings, and try to put them together to create a new piece that uses the ones I prefer, aswell as andding more of a background so that it looked more like a final design.

The reson for choosing to use paints is because I would usually prefer drawing in pencil, so I wanted to use a different approach to presenting my ideas in a way that I still had some control over how it would have worked.

I think that the acrylic paint made my work stand out more and made it a little more challenging for me to use, which allowed me to develop the use of materials a bit further.

I really liked using only the one colour because with the different tones it draws the attention to the thing you are drawing.

Basha graduated in industrial product design and collaborated with fashion, food and beverage companies and publishing houses such as Bloomsbury.

He started to create illustrations with fine details and loves art for its expressive powers. He uses black ink pens mostly creating bold lines and contrast on a smooth surface.

He creates his coloured pieces by drawing they layering watercolour over the tops allowing different shades. His main characteristics are the details created from the amazing line work.

Alfred was inspired by the nature around and created his work at night. His work features animals and humans or even both as mutant creatures with strong double exposure features.

He is a member of a cool art project/brand know as Anjavy where young artists create ink artworks on phone cases and mugs etc.

He draws on paper which is one reason why I liked looking at artists work because I too prefer drawing on paper.

Sara Riches wrote and illustrated a children's book at 13 years old and is well know for being an illustrator.

She worked for a period of time with chalks, pastels and paint, before discovering a passion for drawing feminine beauty as a mixed media artist.

Her work featured inks, watercolors, paints etc with strong emotional feelings and connections to her real life as a way to cope with the life she had.

Music was a huge influence on her artwork aswell as her life, and she used this in her art but working with or on sheet music and vintage papers.

Her work is very expressive and meaningful which is a reason I looked at this artists work, however the main reason for looking into her work was because I came across a piece of hers called "Hands of the Puppeteer".

I loved the piece because of how she portrayed the girl and how meaningful it was. It linked to what I was doing so well from the theme of puppeteer used and control.

For this particular piece by Sara Riches used acrylics, vintage paper and normal paper to create an image of a female manaquin like dancer, which good contrast between the colours of the background and the girl.

Sara forced herself into art daily but it eventually became enjoyable and her way so have relief and therapy. It allowed her to transfer her emotions in an outstanding way to communicate with her audiences when words failed. This was because they could visually see and understand her and her life.

Crystal you have made a really good start to the project so far with some excellent research into appropriate artists to help with technical development. Really consider the research in helping you develop your own response - how have they used media and marks to convey the movement of the puppetry? As Spencer mentioned use your pencils/pens in a layered and delicate way to convey the idea, the whole image/character does not necessarily need to be coloured to get your idea across

Throughout this project i have learnt about the different ways of expressing the term manipulate. I have learnt ways that show the meaning of the word, aswell as doing work that actually manipulates the work itself.

My most successful pieces would be creating mobius strip and drawing gaslighting representations. This is because they worked really well and held the strong emotional meanings in my drawings in a way that was obvious and still effective.

The work I have created could be suitable for the art mesh audience because it shows the theme well and my prefered media choices. All the work has been particularly successful and creative with strengths all throughout.

My feedback gained from others, influenced my work later on because people gave me some really helpful ideas of what could be improved. I had struggled after a while with thinking of ways to make my ideas stronger and more effective and my feedback allowed me to see it from other peoples perspectives.

My sketchbook work overal in my opinion could have been presented a bit more creatively because I had done the work but with lockdown I felt rushed to get it all in my book or on paper.

Each task I have done along with the research that went into each individual task, has all been really influential and connected to each other so my work had some sort of flow to it.

My main issue that I have had during this project, has been that towards the end when we went back into lockdown I struggled to stay on track with what I had planned to do. I wanted to create pieces based from my gaslighting task that were like puppeteer style, because I thought is was such a strong effective representation on the theme manipulate and that it would work best for me and my prefered media (pencils).

My practical work didn't include as many pieces as I had hoped because I didn't get round to doing a final outcome which I have been disappointed in, however I had many ideas which had the potential of becoming an incredible outcome.

Overal I think that this project has been successful in the way that I have learnt to change my perspective at times although I had a few challenges and difficulties with in parts of the tasks. My problem solving is what could have had a little more focus on so that I might have been able to get a final piece done.
