Capitalism has stirred our decision making in this country throughout history. Most times we put economic gain over humanity. In this story, Trustee Amigos face many challenges but overcame those challenges. Some of their challenges were not having security therefore being exploited, not being able to afford housing in their own neighborhood, and competition. During the podcast they started diving into the issue about women that would work these jobs like waitress, maids, and more but could not make a decent living. They would be paid in cash and it would be off the books and less than minimum wage, which is not good because it does not give them security. In my opinion, this is modern day slavery and exploiting the workers. People of power are disconnected from their workers, which in actuality drive their business and are too connected with making a profit that it drivers their decision making process. Also, Trustee Amigos have noticed that people that look like them are not around anymore because the neighborhood has changed. We see how these women cannot afford to live in their own neighborhoods anymore. Speaking from experience, I’ve lived in Brooklyn my whole life and I have seen it changed before my eyes. Gentrification has become increasingly more evident in the neighborhood like Bed Stuy Stuyvesant Fort Greene, Williamsburg, and more. The co-op play an important role in order for them to address the issues.

These women demanded better from the organization which then led to a change. It did not happen overnight, but slowly things started to change. They have job protection so that they are not exploited for their labor. Trustee amigos are different because it is a worker owned cooperative. The decisions are made collaboratively, in terms of the schedules, prices for services, what kind of contracts they’ll agree with, how the company will be organized, and how it will grow. Also, the more people that move in with pets the higher the demand is, which has attracted people's attention and caused competition. The workers needed to create a social media presence like their competition. Up & Go is giving Trustee Amigos economic resources for increasing capital. Up & Go is helping to bridge the gap. 90% of the money is going to the workers. This is a start for economic and social justice because it is allowing women to make the decisions for what they want their lives to look like and giving the workers a decent living so that they can continue to live in their own communities.
