Butet is a graduate of anthropology, she is also known for fighting rights for the tribal children in Jambi. In 2014, Butet received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for her dedication as a pioneer and activist for alternative education for the community in Jambi.
 
She has written a book called Sokola Rumba (The Jungle School: Experiences Teaching with Rimba Children).
