There were many para's in the room to help support each child. Each adult would help an individual student by breaking into group learning. The adults would allow them to play with the toys but then direct their attention to learning by using flash cards, handmade "monsters", bubbles, and lots of songs. The classroom I observed in was a preschool class and each child had a disability ranging from speech impediment to HDHD. There was a total of six students in the classroom as well as one teacher and four para's. The classroom was very welcoming, it had posters about the school and the school's motto. All around the walls were colorful pictures and decorations. There was a carpet with the letters of the alphabet on it as well as numbers around the classroom. The teacher Mrs. Taylor had the class schedule on the whiteboard to not only remind herself but if the students were curious she could show them and explain as well. Instead of sitting in desks they had individual seats that can transform into mini tables and each child had their own. Mrs. Taylor used lots of songs as a way of transitioning into a new lesson or starting a lesson. I found that was very helpful because these students were so young and to get their attention through music was smart so that they know they need to listen. Mrs. Taylor used lots of visuals and hands-on learning. While starting their lesson of the day she would read a picture book to the students and ask questions and make statements along the way. While observing the students were very intrigued with the book she was reading, it was talking about the words of the week "stop" and "go". She used sign language and hand motions to teach and for more visual learning. When the student broke into the group learning is when the hands-on learning really kicked in. While being in the groups one child could play while the other was working with the para or teacher learning more about the words "stop" and "go". These students require adults that can give them their full and undivided attention. I personally don't think I could keep up with everything that is needed to be a special needs teacher. I found it amazing that each and every adult in the classroom was so patient and open with the students, they took their time and were very understanding as the children got confused, frustrated, and tired.
