Made in 1988 the iconic anime came up with whats commonly known as the 'Akira slide'. It takes place in 2019, 30 years post World War III in a rebuilt city of Tokyo known was Neo-Tokyo. The story follows bike gang leader Shotaro Kaneda and his friend Tetsuo. During an altercation with a rival biker gang Tetsuo ends up in the hospital. During examination it's decovered that he has psyschic powers similar to an individual named "Akira" which brought destruction to tokyo 30 years prior and is taken to a goverment facility where he soon escapes. After his escape he chooses to to uses is powers for evil and starts to repeat history.

The OVA boom

OVA stands for Original video content, this is just the selling of video content on dvds or VHS tapes. It started around 1985 and it allowed wiggle room for companies in various areas. Before OVA companies could only broadcast their Anime so selling orginal video content would allow them to make more money of each individual product and also allow longer runtimes. With longer run times Anime was high quality, it was more entraining and allowed the introduction of various genres. Since companies sold their product directly to its consumers ontop on the longer run times companies could cover topics that would normally be censored. Overall the OVA boom lead to the overall growth of Anime, economically and the content.

Shohen is Anime targeted towards yound boys between the ages of 6-15 years old. The first being Dragon Ball which came out in 1989. The anime itself has influenced the genre even today. With common themes of drawn out battles that catch the watchers eye and flashy power ups. Most shonen contain bright colors and are often fast paced when it comes to the story.

One of the most iconic anime movie industries even in modern society. Founded in 1985 by Hayao Mikyazaki. The first movie being Castle in the Sky which is still loved by many. A lot of the movies are still shown in theatres across the country. Throughout the years the artstyle never changes, due to this it even has its own artstyle. You can find Studio Ghibli merch pretty much anywhere. The franchise itself has helped the Anime community gain popularity while still keeping its nostalgic artstyle.

A Sci-Fi Anime aired in 1987 . The Anime follows Shilo who is mans first attempt to launch a manned satellite into space. It encompasses the poltics that are around a space program with it being ridiculed by everyone inculding Shilo. Who ends up being persuaded by a young woman. It then fllows his training journy to achive mans mission.

Barefoot Gen was made in 1983 and follows a young Japanese boy after the bombing of Hiroshima. The story showcases the humanity of the people who have to live wth the after affects of war. It shows the impact of the bombing and the courage it takes to live life afterwards.
