The information in this image gives viewers a glimpse of what is covered while learning about educational psychology. When learning about educational psychology it is critical to know information on teaching strategies, the classroom environment, and how to motivate students. Throughout my grade school career, I have had teachers who clearly had knowledge of educational psychology and I have had teachers who did not use educational psychology strategies. When I was in fifth grade my math teacher created a reward system, which involved coins and every Friday we would count our money and pay for a prize.

My artifact is a picture of a play doctor’s office, which is also called a dramatic play center. Dramatic play is when you bring real-world experience into the classroom. Real-world experience in the classroom can help children learn about the world around them and preschool teachers can provide materials, which cover preschool learning standards. Before attending Baldwin Wallace University I got my associate degree in early childhood education from Tri-c. The early childhood education program covers all things preschool. I did preschool student teaching, which means I have implemented a preschool play-based curriculum before. I have created two dramatic play centers, which means I know the importance of bringing real-world experience into the classroom.

During science class, early elementary students learn how to use the scientific method when conducting experiments. Getting curious and formulating a hypothesis like this is a big part of the scientific method. When I started to learn about the scientific method in school, I enjoyed it so much that I started to conduct science experiments at home. My friend and I would research different experiments we could do and after we conducted the first experiment, we would build from the first experiment and create another hypothesis.

Secondary learning typically takes place between the ages of eleven to eighteen. Throughout these years the class subjects don’t change, but the material students learn tends to be more difficult. Luckily in the picture, a teacher is helping the student with what they are working on in class. During secondary learning, I struggled with the challenges my new teachers gave through what we learned in the core subjects I took. When I was in seventh grade I was put in a tutoring class, which was a designated time during the school day where I met up with a teacher to work on my assignments and ask for help if I needed it.

The artifact I chose is a collage of words that describe college learning. Words in the artifact that describes college include post-secondary, career, skills, knowledge, etc. These words correlate with my artifact because college is considered higher education. I believe that all of these words used to describe college in my artifact are accurate. I decided to pursue college learning because I want a career teaching young children who have IEPs and or 504s, which is very specific and specialized. A career like this special education degree can prepare me for my future career.

The Van diagram consists of knowledge of these theories and the differences between the three theories. Behaviorism, constructivism, and cognitivism are important to the learning process because they support different ways a teacher can present lessons. After learning about these theories, I realized that my past teachers have used these theories when presenting their lessons. Through personal experience, I have found these theories effective when used in the classes I was in.

The critical thinking skills in the artifact include analyzing, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluating. Using these critical thinking skills can help people reach a higher level of thinking by finding solutions to problems and asking questions. After learning about the steps of critical thinking I find myself using these steps when working on my assignments. I have found that thinking critically while working on my assignments has helped me better understand the material.

Two types of motivation are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation; my artifact gives examples of what can intrinsically and extrinsically motivate someone. If someone uses intrinsic motivation, they will be motivated by themselves. Extrinsic is the opposite of intrinsic, if someone uses extrinsic motivation they rely on outside factors, for example, they go to work just so they can make money. I use more intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic motivation in my life. Intrinsic motivation works best for me, but I also use extrinsic motivation sometimes when I see fit.

My artifact is an infographic, which covers common effective study methods. Retrieval is when students can recall information without looking at their notes. Interleaving can be defined as breaking up your study time into sections and studying something new during every section. I enjoy using both the retrieval and interleaving methods when studying. Personally, I have found these study methods effective for me when studying.

Chrome books are commonly found in schools for students to use. The use of Chromebooks has come in handy for both teachers and students because of email, which is a way to communicate with your teachers outside of school hours. The first time I used a Chromebook in school was in middle school. I never got to take my Chromebook home, but I remember using it for Kahoot quizzes and typing papers.
