When I first moved to Hilliard, I was in 4th grade and I got bullied by a girl who was smaller than I was, but more confident. Apparently not too long before I had moved, they stopped being friends and the girl was mean to me because I had befriended her former friend. We went to the same before and after school care and every morning she would have a comment about what I was wearing or how I talked because I had a bit of a southern accent. "The aim of bullying is to cause embarrassment and humiliation in the subject." (Unit 4 iBook Section 6) I tried to talk to a couple of the before school care teachers but they all told me to suck it up because I was being too dramatic. Since the only people who would take me seriously were my friends, they helped distract me when the girl was trying to say something mean or trying to get my attention. Eventually, the girl gave up on bullying me because she realized that I wasn't paying any attention to what she was saying. "Many bullies are not interested in picking on someone who has a support system." (Unit 4 iBook Section 6) Even though the girl no longer bullies me, I will always be self-conscious about how I look or the way I talk because of the things she said. "Non-physical forms of bullying can be just as traumatizing as physical bullying. Physical signs of bullying often disappear long before the psychological effects of emotional bullying disappear." (Unit 4 iBook Section 6)
