Hello. My name is Daniel Louis P. Bernadaz, here to talk about the Philippines pop culture and my experience with it. Pop culture is something that grows with the people and more often than not can shape and impact its surroundings. Some of these pop culture are the OPM songs that they create which features talented artists such as Sarah Geronimo, lively cultural festivals such as the sinulog, culinary and delectable foods such as the halo-halo, filipino cinematic films that showcases filipino talent in acting and the presence of karaoke in every corners of the country. All of these things play a great role in being able to impact the change within a group of people.

Karaoke is a great culture

While many other pop cultures also deserve a spotlight, one I'd like to highlight would be the Filipinos' love for karaoke. Karaoke is deeply embedded in Filipino culture, and it goes beyond just a pastime as it's a way of life. Whether it's at home, in a bar, or a family gathering, Filipinos of all ages enthusiastically participate in karaoke sessions. Karaoke is not necessarily just about singing as it could be just a way for people to gather with friends and family to have a good time. The culture of Karaoke shows the strong familial bond of the people with one another and showcases the deep-rooted camaraderie of the people with one another.

In Filipino karaoke culture, it's evident that people are drawn to this form of entertainment not merely as passive consumers but as active participants. Karaoke allows Filipinos to exercise agency by choosing songs, performing, and engaging with their social circles allowing people to bond together and have an overall great time together. It offers a sense of autonomy and empowerment, allowing them to express themselves creatively and emotionally, having the ability to create freedom within the person and loosen oneself and create a positive environment. This active engagement with karaoke as a medium for self-expression has led to profound changes in the way people interact, build relationships, and navigate the cultural landscape in the Philippines.

Furthermore, the Philippines' karaoke culture has reshaped traditional norms and hierarchies. It provides a platform for people from different backgrounds and social statuses to come together, share their talents, and be part of a collective experience allowing people to unify and cross the norms within their boundaries. In this sense, karaoke has catalyzed a form of carnival, a temporary suspension of the usual social order, where hierarchies and constraints are loosened and people are more free and unified in their own ways, allowing a platform such that everyone has a chance at something. This cultural phenomenon has enabled people to connect and bond, breaking down barriers and allowing more close interaction with one another that allows oneself to showcase their best to others. In this way, karaoke exemplifies how media and pop culture can bring about social change by facilitating a sense of community and empowering individuals to take charge of their entertainment choices, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and expressive society.
