He suggests that the vlogger's success lies within their likeable, relatable, comedic personalities and in their willingness to share personal information which is the commercial appeal of themselves to their audience. This embodies Star's YouTube career as a homosexual man constantly in the lime light of the social media community and who is successful for being his own appealing self through the well presented, unique, self-brand. Lovelock also explains that due to homonormativity and proto-normativity, this creates a 'legitimacy' of the models of gay and lesbian selfhood. This then makes gay YouTube stars function as valuable figures of identification for young members of the LGBTQ community and gay 'role models', such as Jeffree Star, are positioned to mitigate the experiences of young homosexual people in their day-to-day lives. Vloggers' ability to mobilise their sexuality in the form of emotional-labour on YouTube deviate a particular view of success to an emotionally-defined model of 'proud' gay sexuality. Star plays an important role in this way through not identifying with his sexuality at all and consistently portraying that he is comfortable with who he is without having to add a gender label to himself and his brand.
