  • It opens with a question, a typical characteristic of this genre: “What´s your news, Amy?”
  • The vocabulary used is typical of informal conversation such as the word gonna, gotta.
  • The speakers’ cooperation is shown through speakers support: “You are right!”
  • No one speaker seems to control the conversation.
  • Comments in response to the topic include some evaluations:  Rachel: “Honey, Amy, you deserve true love”.   
Rachel: -“Huh. Wow, so he´s gotta be-    Amy: -“Old? Yeah.

There is an informal use of language focused on one clear topic related to the context
• At the very beginning of the scene, Ross (showing the picture) uses the demonstrative adjective "that", which can only be understood by the person who sees the scene. 
• Speakers are not referred to by their names neither, they understand perfectly well who is talking to whom. For instance, when Ross gives the command "Turn", it is obvious that he is talking to Rachel and Chandler!
• There are also instances of adjacency pairs, question-answer.
• We can also say that the speakers have a close relationship because of the use of informal language, for instance: "there isn´t OK", contractions, and ellipsis "you know what?"

Joey is a little worried because of the changes Janine has made to the apartment. We observe the following characteristics:

·         Through all the video we see he produces a comment once she has elaborated a reply, so the development of the conversation is through this commenting on what has been said and elaborating new questions or replies. 
·         Topics switch many times: they talk about pictures, candles, towels, potpourri, etc. 
·         As every topic has a comment and a response we consider them adjacency pairs (he complaints and she answers). They also produce evaluation.
·         They also regulate the turn-taking and the quantity of their speech. What they say is relevant to the other´s comment.We also find the maxim of manner; they speak clearly and briefly.
·         The field is quite wide, it´s related to stuff in a house. 
·         There´s no overlapping while speaking.
·         There are also some filled pauses such as um, er, mm   (produced by Joey, as thinking time pauses)
·         Repetition of some words (typical from a developing conversation).
·         None of them are controlling the conversation
·         Use of deixis: this picture; this baby ; over here (proximal examples)

We can mention the following characteristics:

  •     The topic is provoked by Phoebe, who starts talking about how Monica tries to dissuade them about what she really does.
  •    The comments given are evaluative.    
  •    The participants comment on each others´ statements.
  •    The participants use adjectives which evaluate the speakers’ comments.
  •    Through the conversation, the speakers introduced topics randomly by all of them; for instance, Phoebe introduces the topic of the relationship between Monica and Chandler, and then, she changes the topic and talks about laundry, Rachel talks about Phoebe already knows about Monica and Chandler because they have seen them and Ross talks about their secrets.
