This is video from TikTok of a Minnesota teacher who I get a lot of ideas from to bring into my classroom, from games, lessons, and crafts. I love this video because she took a song that is popular for her students and made her own version to help her students learn to Skip Count by 7s! I agree with her in this video - I will do anything to get my students to learn. I taught this song to my 2nd graders and other of her skip counting songs! My 2nd graders stay so engaged and I love that I am able to make something like skip counting easy and fun for my learners.

At any given time, learning objectives, content, methods and pacing are likely to vary from learner to learner as they pursue proficiency relative to established standards. A fully personalized environment moves beyond both differentiation and individualization.

We, as a school system, have not been doing a good job of teaching kids to read. The Science of Reading guides my literacy work with students in the classroom. I have always used reading curriculums that explicitly teach decoding and phonics to students, and I really believe it works for them. I have seen my students become successful readers and make some great growth in my classroom! I have seen a number of blogs and articles in the news lately that talk about reading science, so I am interested in seeing if some big changes are made in the larger school system.

My school has made it a goal to learn more about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) this year and to begin to better implement SEL practices in our classrooms. One resource that I have been given on SEL is this playbook. It is organized by three types of activities: welcoming and inclusion, engaging strategies, and optimistic closure. With the pandemic, there have been many traumas for students, and keeping SEL practices in mind helps to create a more welcoming and inclusive classroom environment for our students. We are hoping that more training in this model will help our students to have improved attitudes and behaviors as well as less emotional stress.

I personally love this video because it's presented by a student who is similar in age to my fifth graders, therefore making it relatable to them. Lastly, I think this allows for my students to gain an understanding for my expectations of their efforts as we continuously address growth and fixed mindset as the year proceeds.

This is one way to informally assess students and gain an understanding for what they know. I usually use this for Math practice (especially to practice basic multiplication and division facts) and Language. What's so great about this resource is you're able to see student's records of their work as well as address those grade level standards.

This is a list of free graphic organizers from Responsive Classroom. My school did the 4-day RC training this summer and we are in the process of incorporating both Responsive Classroom and PBIS as a means of creating a more positive and consistent culture in our school. These graphic organizers are very helpful for visual learners, although I think they are pretty universal in that they can benefit a lot of different learning styles. I like using the 3-2-1 reflection form in my middle school social studies class. It's great for teaching students how to looking for the most important takeaways when reading an article or looking at primary source material.

Integration Matrix (Jessi Majestic)

This Integration Matrix was published in the book Differentiating Instruction in the Regular Classroom: How to Reach and Teach All Learners, Grades 3-12 by Diane Heacox. I took a class with Dr. Heacox during my undergrad elementary education program at St. Kate's, and I found this matrix so helpful that I have used it in my unit planning throughout my teaching career so far. The columns of the matrix are made up of the Bloom's Taxonomy levels, and the rows are Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. If you make sure your unit includes activities and assignments that fit into different boxes, then you will know you are reaching a wide variety of learning styles while teaching a unit. It is a helpful resource as you begin to figure out how you are going to teach various topics/standards, and then you can figure out your sequencing and make more detailed lesson plans from there.

This link is only going to show you a preview of the Integration Matrix. I have the book with the complete matrix, but I loaned it to another teacher at my school. I can replace this link with a complete image of the matrix once the book is returned from my colleague.

Lessons are essentially broken up into three parts: teacher direct instruction, independent practice, and technology-based adaptive software. The purpose of blended learning is to reach the students where they are, and help push and challenge each student individually to grow.

What I like about it is that it breaks up your class into small activities and encourages peer discussion as well as group work. My school has a number of students with ELL services and there is a really great companion book that works well with students with IEPs as well. It is also very affordable. No curriculum is perfect, and many times my co-teacher and I have to supplement resources and develop hands on activities. Overall, I have been impressed with it as a foundational curriculum.

This is an app I have on my iPads - we are lucky to be one-on-one - but this could also work if you had just a few iPads for a listening center. In Kindergarten, my students are instructed to find books that have a green or purple button at the bottom; those books are read aloud to them. There are also fun instructional videos and how-to-draw art projects as well. I use this for stations at least once a week!

This is an ongoing project of the New York Historical Society's education team, which is seeking to provide resources and curriculum to guide teachers in more fully incorporating women's experiences into the traditional US history survey course. They are aiming to move away from "contribution" curriculum where exceptional women (women who have primarily excelled in men's spheres) are added as sidebars to the narrative to a more gender-balanced curriculum that views women's experiences as equally essential to the understanding of America's past. The primary source resources are well-curated.

Gilder Lehrman has a lot of great resources for social studies curriculum development, but I especially loved this series they did where cast members from Hamilton read award winning children's books about a diverse selection of historical topics, and then had facilitated conversations with a GLI master-teacher. It's a great resource for in the classroom, but it's also a great resource for how to have conversations with young students about challenging topics.

This is a longer interview with a language teacher but it includes a lovely image provided by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) on the Core Practices. ACTFL has been my resource for directive and reminders of how I can do my job best in a language classroom for young students at novice levels. Whenever I catch myself thinking "why is this lesson/unit not clicking with my students?", I revert back to the Core Practices and note what I am missing in my teaching. Authentic resources and 90% comprehensible input are my biggest challenges at the moment.

When I read about language teaching, I am most often reading about the assumption that you are teaching secondary level, intermediate ability students that are capable of using and applying past learning to basic yet spontaneous conversation in the target language. As a k-6 teacher, it is challenging to support such novice and young learners in interactive and highly engaging activities besides "repeat after me..." I use blogs such as edutopia to spark new ideas on how I can better engage my young, beginning language learners through excitement and higher comprehensible input.

There is a massive database of subjects from math concepts to social-emotional and history lessons. Each video comes with a quiz for students, teacher resources and lesson plans. They are also flagged with the recommended grade ranges for each video. I use this regularly in my classroom and it is a huge hit.

99 Math is a free website that helps with math fluency and fast facts. You can either assign to students or host a live game. For the live game, students log in like they would for Kahoot or Blooket. The host picks a math skill for them to do, set a desired amount of rounds and minutes for each round. When the game starts, students are to answer as many of the math problems as they can in the time frame. A live leaderboard of progress can be displayed by the host as they play. My students love this and serves as a great was to warm up before a math lesson.
