To choose the roles, the students would have to tryout for the roles. While all of the boys wanted to tryout for boy parts and the girls wanted to tryout for girl roles, George, wanted to tryout for Charlotte, a feminine role. However, on the day of the tryouts, when George told Ms. Udell that he would tryout for Charlotte, she gave her a contemptuous look, asking George, "Was that supposed to be some kind of joke? Because it wasn't very funny (pg. 78)." This event have lead George into finding her true identity. After getting denied to tryout for a girl role, she chooses to not act in the play. After the play, however, Jeff teases George for acting like a girl. Then, George have taken revenge on him, by writing names behind his back.
