Under the bright lights of New York’s famous Times Square, Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakwa broke the record for the longest chess marathon. A marathon is something (such as an event, activity, or session) that is characterized by great length or intense effort. Chess is one of the most popular and oldest mind games and is still played by many people. Chess originated in India, and the first World Chess Championship began in 1886. In 1924, the International Chess Federation was founded. The longest chess marathon lasted 58 hours and was played by Tunde Onakwa, a 29-year-old Nigerian. He won $1 million, which he donated to poor children in Africa. Studies have shown that a chess player burns 6,000 calories a day while playing tournaments, three times what the average person burns in a single day. In conclusion, a marathon is more than just a race; it is a test of endurance, determination, and personal growth. Completing it is an amazing feat that inspires strength and resilience in all who participate.

الطالبات: تمارة احمد، غزلان عيد، شهد عمر، ريماس عبدالله

The Berlin Marathon is an annual running race held in Berlin, Germany, and is considered one of the most famous marathons in the world. It began in 1974 with only 286 participants and was originally held in the forests of West Berlin. Over time, the event grew in significance, moving to the city’s main streets in 1981 and becoming a symbol of unity after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990 when runners passed through the iconic Brandenburg Gate. The marathon is known for its flat and fast course, making it ideal for world record-breaking performances. It attracts thousands of runners from around the globe each year, with more than 40,000 participants in some years. The world record for the Berlin Marathon stands at 2:00:01 for men, set by Eliud Kipchoge in 2018, and 2:14:04 for women, set by Brigid Kosgei in 2019. Top finishers receive substantial cash prizes, and participants who achieve certain times earn additional bonuses. Every finisher receives a medal featuring the marathon’s logo and event year. The event’s atmosphere is vibrant and festive, with thousands of spectators cheering along the route, and live music adding to the experience. The marathon is organized by the Berlin Sports Association and is part of the World Marathon Majors series. It is not only a prestigious athletic competition but also a platform for supporting charitable causes, making it a significant social event as well.

الطالبات :

رغد الحربي

في السحيمي

روز المطرفي

شهد المطيري

A reading marathon is an inspiring initiative aimed at encouraging people to read more and develop a lifelong love for books. These events are typically organized by schools, libraries, or community groups to promote literacy and learning. Participants dedicate a set period to reading as many books, pages, or hours as possible, often setting personal goals or engaging in friendly competition. The marathon motivates readers to explore diverse genres and authors, making it an opportunity to discover new stories and expand their knowledge. It is not only an individual activity but can also include group discussions, challenges, and interactive sessions to make the experience more enjoyable. Beyond improving reading skills, a reading marathon enhances focus, comprehension, and vocabulary, while also fostering a deeper appreciation for literature. Additionally, it creates a sense of community among participants, allowing them to connect over shared interests and discuss ideas sparked by their reading. In an age dominated by digital distractions, a reading marathon serves as a productive and enriching way to promote the habit of reading. It demonstrates that books are not just a source of knowledge but also a gateway to imagination, creativity, and personal growth, making it a rewarding experience for people of all ages.

Group 3

ريماس الصاعدي

خديجه المطيري

ريما الجابري

Marathon des Sables: The Ultimate Desert Challenge

The Marathon des Sables, held annually in the Moroccan Sahara, is one of the toughest ultramarathons in the world. Known as “The Marathon of the Sands,” this event covers approximately 250 kilometers over six days. Since its first race in 1986, it has attracted adventurers and athletes from around the globe seeking to test their limits. Participants face extreme challenges, including temperatures over 50°C, endless sand dunes, and rocky terrain. However, the Marathon des Sables is more than just a race; it’s a journey of endurance, resilience, and self-discovery. It brings together people from diverse backgrounds, all striving for the same goal: crossing the finish line. Many describe the experience as life-changing, forging friendships and memories that last a lifetime. Beyond the personal achievement, the event showcases the stunning beauty of Morocco’s Sahara Desert and supports local tourism, providing economic benefits to nearby communities.

A racquetball marathon is an exciting, fast-paced event where players engage in continuous racquetball matches over an extended period. Typically, participants play in a round-robin format, where they compete against each other in singles or doubles, with the goal of playing as many matches as possible within a set time frame, often 12 or 24 hours. The marathon emphasizes endurance, strategy, and quick reflexes, as players must maintain focus and energy despite the physical demands of prolonged play. Scoring is usually traditional, with each match lasting until a winner reaches a certain number of points. Players may rotate in and out to rest or substitute teammates, but the key challenge remains managing fatigue while maintaining competitive intensity. The marathon culminates in recognizing individual or team achievements based on total points, matches won, or time played, fostering a spirit of camaraderie, fitness, and

sportsmanship.
