Infants rely on a very limited selection of food choices mainly made by their parents. The 3 most essential micro-nutrients needed for infants are: Iron, Calcium, and Folate. Formula accounts for Calcium along with breast milk, Vitamins are also used after the first 6 months in the Infants life to help increase their Iron intake. The most important nutrient of all is Fat, in order to develop the brain, protect from infections, provide energy, and keep skin and hair healthy. Formula and breast milk provide Fat for the Infant, which is why their intake should be limited to those two foods.

Infants have the luxury of not having to choose what is good or bad for them, their parents do the dirty work. The main impact on what a parent chooses is usually the media and nutrition labels. If the media tells a parent that Formula is bad and that breast milk is the only safe choice, the baby will develop problems like Iron deficiencies. Baby food brands are a business and they compete with each other which makes it difficult for parents to choose what is right for their child. Also if a mother cannot produce breast milk, that limits the parents to only formula which also can risk the child's development overall.

Infants immune systems are very fragile which can cause many problems. but a main problem due to what they consume is food intolerance and allergies. Studies show that if Infants after 6 months are given common allergenic foods, it reduces the risk of them developing an allergy to that specific food (eggs, nuts, milk, etc.) People that grow up with Iron deficiencies is usually cause by a lack of Iron from Infancy. A condition name Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is also common where Infants can die from unknown causes without trace, So keeping your baby healthy is a crucial factor.

Infants spend most of their time eating and sleeping. so feeding is basically most of what parents need to focus on, this list shows the amount of formula recommended per day for each stage of the first 6 months.
1 month | 2-4 ounces | 6-8 times
2 months | 5-6 ounces | 5-6 times
3 - 5 months | 6-7 ounces | 5-6 times

Things you should focus on are balancing breastfeeding and formula feeding. As both have equal importance to develop a healthy child. Do not just stick to one thing unless breastfeeding is not available. But a worthy alternative to Formula is Iron supplements if the Infant is only breastfed to ensure development of blood cells.
