Strategies for managing mastitis have recently been reviewed and the information on treating it has changed.

The main change is that using cooling rather than heating is more effective at reducing inflammation. Also, a reminder that massage should be VERY gentle - the pressure should be akin to that used to rub in body lotion. It has now been recognised it is important to move lymph fluid out of the breasts using the technique listed here. You can also Google Maya Bolman’s ‘Breast Gymnastics’ for a helpful video.
