Harding adopted the Fordney-Mccumber tariff and that raised taxes on imported goods highest than its every been. Since they were so high Britain and france couldn't sell enough goods to pay America back. So they United States negotiated the Dawes plan. Which was basically when America loaned germany 2.5 billion dollars to pay back Britain and France and with that money Britain and France paid America back. Harding's Cabinet- Harding's friends started to use their offices to become wealthy. One example is that one of his friends got caught selling government and hospital supplies to private companies.

Economic boom

The auto industry revolutionized the country, creating roads to be paved and easier transportation to come to the common man. Henry Ford,s Model T led the way to the auto industry we know today, giving way to large manufacturers. The auto industry increased production by 45% and made roads like Route 66 a necessity. The automobile changed the American life, as now farmers who were once isolated into the rural setting, could now travel efficiently to the city for shopping and entertainment, leading to the urban sprawl. The airplane also impacted the American life, starting as a means of a postal service, airplanes developed into fast travel across great distances, using equipment such as radios and navigation instruments. In 1927, Pan American Airways introduced transatlantic flights to passengers, and in doing so introducing a new way to travel the world. Credit also had impact on the economy, promoting a buy now pay later ideal, where consumers could pay through installments, while still receiving goods fast. Throwing wood into the fire, advertising for companies bombarding extra space, and conveniences built up credit, the buying of stocks, and the eventual crash, which companies could not pay back stock, and consumers could not pay credit. Consumerism influenced The installment plan ,increased production, and purchases by giving consumers the option to pay over installments (pre-approved payments over period of time). This manipulated the now needy American, in the way it fueled superficial prosperity, essentially putting the consumer in debt to the company. Some businesses and work forces, such as farming, declined in the 1920's due to the great rush to cities and the urban environment. This caused most businesses like agriculture to plummet, and be faced with having a lesser needed work status.

Jazz was created in the early 1920's. It was a combination of ragtime and vocal blues into a new sound. People like Joe King and Louis Armstrong started traveling around the world and, playing this new music. This helped a lot of African americans start their career. For example Fletcher Henderson had created the biggest jazz band, in the world, and he became Very wealthy. Another example is Bessie Smith, she was a female blues singer which is kind of like jazz, but she was so good that she was getting recognized by record labels and she became the highest paid african american artist.

The great migration was the moving of African Americans to the scene of the urban work force. Jim crow laws, the KKK, low pay for blacks, and racial tension combined with higher pay and need for workers in the north led to traveling and spreading to the cities to find better life. With the people, came the culture leading to the jazz age, new customs, beliefs, and lifestyle. These factors influenced 5.2 million African Americans to make the move north to seek opportunity.
