With that being said, the 1970’s and its presidents help restore peace to the world. Initially, Nixon attempted to smooth things over with communist nations by becoming the first president to visit communist China. Nixon also did not support the Vietnam War and helped in its coming to an end. The Vietnam War then comes to under Ford’s administration in 1975. Ford also backed the Helsinki Accords which improved the relations between the US and the USSR helping the cold war come to a close. Finally, Carter helped continue these peaceful practices. Carter facilitated the Camp David Peace Accords between Israel and Egypt which helped establish temporary peace in the Middle East. Nixon and Ford’s results are mostly seen through the fact that there was never a major war between Russia and the US and that the “Communism vs. Socialism” debate never tore the world apport. Carter taking part in the Camp David Peace Accords between Israel and Egypt is extremely important because there still are deadly debates regarding the outcome today.

The accords were negotiated during 12 days of intensive talks at President Jimmy Carter’s Camp David retreat in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland. The final peace agreement–the first between Israel and one of its Arab neighbors–was signed in March 1979. Sadat and Begin were jointly awarded the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts.
