We are very much looking forward to our first walk of hope tomorrow for Years 3-6 (LP1-Elements). We will be walking in houses, Xavier, Campion and Loyola and collecting donations for Jesuit Missions.

Donhead pupils (preschool, reception, year 1 and year 2) complete their walk of hope today around the grounds. They wore house colours and walked in the houses of Campion, Loyola and Xavier. Donations were made to Jesuits Missions.

Adoration service at St Mary’s Hall

On Friday 14th March, as part of our Jubilee of Hope, we came together for a special Eucharistic Adoration service at St Mary’s Hall as part of our Lenten journey. On Family Fast Day, we raised donations in support of CAFOD’s Lent Appeal and Jesuit Missions to help those in need. During the service, we also received purple ribbon wristbands as a symbol of our Lenten promises and spent three minutes in quiet reflection with Jesus.

This video captures the peaceful and prayerful atmosphere of our time in Adoration.

Barlborough Hall Camino

The children at Barlborough Hall enjoyed a lovely day today taking part in a series of activities to celebrate our ‘Barlborough Hall Triathlon Camino’ as part of our Pilgrims of Hope. This morning, the children have been on a 2.5km walk around the grounds and have taken part in House running relays on the school field. This afternoon, EYFS and Pre-Prep have cycled their bikes around the Pre-Prep track whilst Upper School have cheered each other on in their House Swimming Galas. We have enjoyed working together to support Jesuit Missions.

Barlborough Hall Pre-Prep II Retreat

Pre-Prep II spent their retreat reflecting on what it means to be ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ in this jubilee year. They explored the Jubilee logo and thought about what it means to be a pilgrim. We decorated our pilgrim bags with the word ‘Hope’ and reflected creatively on hope in creation. We went on a pilgrimage around our school, finding signs and symbols of what and who is special to our identity, Praying the Our Father, Hail Mary and our House prayers to St Ignatius, St Xavier and St Campion.

During their Jubilee themed retreat, our year 8 students reflected on what hope means to them and how we can be pilgrims of hope during this Jubilee Year. They drew around their feet and wrote what hope meant to them and then created a piece of artwork to reflect their images of hope.

We set up a whats app group for our staff to share their pictures of the churches they visited along the way on our Staff Pilgrimage Day. This was lovely in itself, but one nice thing that has grown out of this is staff posting photos of churches (and especiallyJubillee Logos) from different places they have been on holiday.

St Ignatius College Sixth Form Sleep Out

To gain a greater understanding of the challenges faced by the homeless, our year 12 students spent a night in March sleeping in our quad. Fiona from JRS UK came to speak to the students about different types of homelessness and the work of JRS UK. The students then enjoyed a simple meal of soup and bread; took part in some team building exercises, prayer and reflection, before sleeping outside overnight. In the morning, we reflected on our experience and what it had taught us. The students were sponsored to take part to raise funds for JRS UK.

Wimbledon College in the Footsteps of St Ignatius during Lent.

We set each Tutor group the challenge of walking the 647km pilgrimage of St Ignatius across northern Spain. We exceeded our target with the school walking a total of 53,826kms during lent.

During Wimbledon College Morning Prayers Tutor groups followed along their route on our virtual map, with each stage having some information and images about that stage.

St Ignatius College Big Lent Walk

During Lent, our students raised money for CAFOD by taking part in the Big Lent Walk. Every student walked one mile around our school field during one of their games lessons. Our CAFOD Young Leaders shared the story of Khera and her glitter group in Kenya to raise awareness of the effects of drought on farmers within the area and encourage the students to raise sponsorship for the walk to enable CAFOD to provide more chickens and training in how to keep them to groups like Khera's. As they completed the walk, students were encouraged to reflect on how on own choices and actions impact on the environment and contribute to the natural disasters that disproportionately affect our poorer brothers and sisters around the world.

Here at St Joseph's we are participating in the 'Pilgrim of Hope' sponsored walk to raise money for Jesuit Missions.

We are collectively walking the Ignation way hoping to get to Manresa from Loyola just like St Ignatious did.

SMH Art Expo 2025 Pilgrims of Hope

As part of our Jubilee year celebration, each class was invited to explore the theme of hope, beginning with a piece of scripture as inspiration. Pupils discussed the meaning of hope and how it relates to their own lives. They then used a variety of media and stimuli–including music, news reports, stories, film clips, poetry, prayer–to deepen their reflections and create visual responses.
