I work at JetBlue and due to Hurricane Irma we have been required to work 2-3 hours of overtime daily. This began on September 5th and as of today, September 12th we are still in a code red. Code red is the term used to identify an emergent need for additional employees on the phones. This overtime requirement is in addition to any regularly scheduled hours each employee has. JetBlue offers such a flexible schedule that many employees work here part time while maintaining a full time job. This combination leaves people working 15 or more hours on some days. This can become very overwhelming. In addition to the required overtime, half of our employees in our reservation department live in Florida. These employees were released from their duties on September 7th to prepare for the storm. This has created some tension toward JetBlue for all the mandatory overtime employees in Utah have had to work.

I decided that I would help a few coworkers with their overloaded schedules. I looked through our crewmember Facebook page to see who needed help and then offered to take hours from them. I did this several days to help alleviate stress for these people and to give them a mental break. We work from home and being tied to your desk in an at home office, alone, has to create a sense of cabin fever. Putting myself in their shoes made me realize how desperate a lot of these employees with two jobs and families were for any break in their schedule.
