The police tried to arrest him because they thought he was going to join the Ghost Dance movement. He resisted which led to chaos and a member of the crown shot at tan Indian police member which led to Sitting Bull getting shot in the head and chest by the police. "In 1907 he moved to the US senate, becoming the first Republican whip with American Indian ancestry." He was part of the House of Representatives and after 14 years of good work he got moved up to the senate to fill an unexpired term for Senator Joseph R. "Granting citizenships to all Native Americans born in the territorial limits of the country." He ran office with president Herbert Hoover in 1929 until 1933. "He and President Herbert Hoover didn't have a close relationship, and many Americans had the impression that Curtis didn't really have a role in the White House. This could of been because Hoover had to deal with the the stock market crash (or better knows as the famous "Great Depression"). They created this code by using the Navajo native language but with Military phrases. At first it stared with 211 terms, but over the course of WW2 it stretched to 411 terms. It was a good language to communicate in between the American and Navajo soldier because the language was not well known to the public. Phillip Johnston was the person who brought up the idea of a code system using his native language. This walk was recreated by a bunch of activist groups and supports to spread the word of protect sacred Native Lands. "The walk toured 8,000 miles, 26 states and 35 Indian nations". It started in San Francisco and ended at the White House in Washington DC. There were 2 routes (1 northern and 1 southern). Unfortunately the northern route got broken up by police in Ohio.
