¿Qué es el Zero Conditional?

¡Hola a todos! Soy Lina, aquí en el peñol, Ant. El zero conditional se usa para hablar de hechos generales, verdades científicas o cosas que siempre son ciertas. La estructura es: If + present simple, present simple. Por ejemplo: If you heat water to 100 degrees, it boils. (Si calientas agua a 100 grados, hierve). Es como decir 'cuando' en lugar de 'si', porque siempre pasa.

Aquí van algunos ejemplos que me gustan:

1. If it rains, the streets get wet. (Si llueve, las calles se mojan).

2. Plants die if they don't get enough water. (Las plantas mueren si no reciben suficiente agua).

3. If you mix blue and yellow, you get green. (Si mezclas azul y amarillo, obtienes verde).

¿Ves? Son cosas que siempre ocurren. ¡Prueba a pensar en uno de tu vida diaria en Colombia, como si comes arepa, ¡te llena de energía!

Consejos para usar Zero Conditional

Recuerda, ambos verbos en present simple. No usas 'will' o 'going to' aquí, porque no es futuro. En Colombia, decimos: If you eat too many empanadas, you feel full. (Si comes demasiadas empanadas, te sientes lleno). ¡easy, verdad?

Examples: 1. If you study hard, you will pass the exam. (Si estudias duro, aprobarás el examen). 2. If we leave now, we will arrive on time. (Si salimos ahora, llegaremos a tiempo). 3. If she calls me, I will answer. (Si me llama, contestaré). If the sun shines, we will go to the park. (Si brilla el sol, iremos al parque).

Diferencias con Zero Conditional

La clave: Zero es para generales (siempre), first es para futuro probable.

Zero: If you touch fire, it burns.

First: If you touch the hot stove, it will burn you.
