=> Maria Montessori was born in 1870 from a middle-class family (the father was Alessandro Montessori and the mother was Renilde Stoppani) ; she spends her youth time in Rome and in 1896 she graduates at the faculty of medicine and surgery with a thesis in psychiatry .

In the same years she participates in the women’s congress in Berlin in support of women’s emancipation .

=> In 1898 , after a relationship with her colleague Montesano , she gives birth Mario . 

=> the first steps of the Maria Montessori’s career see her concentrated on children with disabilities .

=> Around 1900 Maria Montessori began a research at roman mental institution of Santa Maria Della Pietà where among the mentally-ill adults there were children with behavioural difficulties ; after numerous years of observation she creates a method (Maria Montessori , in the creation of her method , takes inspiration from the work of Itard and Séguin → they affirmed the possibility for children to become part of the community following a path of adequate education) of education for disabled children based on the idea that children have differentiated stages of growth in which they are more or less inclined to 
learn  .

Following the surprising results obtained Maria Montessori (‘’Why normal children cannot profit from the same method ?’’) in 1907 (6 january 1907) opens in Rome the ‘’House of Children’’ where she proposes the method created for abnormal children as a basis for new educational proposals of normal children .

=> In 1913 Maria Montessori organizes the first international teaching training course (diffusion of the montessorian method) .

=> In consequence of the advent of fascism and the Second World War the ‘’House of Children’’ are closed and Maria Montessori leaves Italy to live in different European countries before returning to Italy .

=> Maria Montessori dies in 1952 .
