Week 8 - Soundscape

I enjoyed constructing the soundscape. I used the starry night and the sound focused on the day sky moving to the night sky. I used the moving flapping of book pages to create the flapping sound of the wind. A dish of pens were used to create the sound of branches moving. The sentence used was "As the wind blows the stealth sky moves from day to night.

What - During the lecture we completed an activity about composing a soundscape that mirrored or explained an artwork. The tutorial focused on sociocultural learning approaches. The art pedagogies and socio-constructivist principles and also the integration of the Australian Curriculum: the arts and how to integrate the arts with other learning areas.

So What - I learnt how to create a soundscape. Before participating in this tutorial i had no idea that soundscapes existed. I would definitely be interested in trialling this activity in a classroom. I expected the soundscape to be harder to create, however, it was easy to learn as you went, I learnt how to further enhance authenticity an an integrated classroom.

Now What - The soundscapes can be integrated into English, Maths and many more subjects. I would like to learn more features of the soundscape app to deliver authentic art integration. Further education surrounding art integration into the Australian Curriculum could be completed to further extend my knowledge. I can't wait to use soundscapes for learning.

The activity focused on how art can be used to teach maths. The instructions and art could also be used to tell a story in English. I loved participating in the activity and the challenge to create art using a set of instructions. I created a hill with a circle sun and circle waterhole. There is a brown animal made of circles on the green hill.
What - During the tutorial we completed two activities. One involving listening to instructions as shown above and the other activity was listening to music and creating art. Also discussed was the various models of integration and the building blocks for meaningful arts integration. The arts were viewed as texts and tools of communication.
So What - I enjoyed looking at and discussing the seven elements of art as i feel like art can be expressed in so many ways and no art is ever the same, making it unique. I was surprised during the instructions and artmaking activity that simple instructions can make art. I enjoyed making the different types of art and discussing the key principles that underpin arts integration.
Now What - I learnt that there are many elements that make up art and that there are many models that can be used to successfully implement arts integration. I would like to learn more about the integration models. I cant wait to implement the instructions and artmaking into classrooms

Kylie Salisbury (Week 3 Stop Motion)

My stop motion video represents a person dropping rubbish on the ground as they walk past the bin. The next person comes along and picks up both pieces of rubbish and puts them in the bin. As littering is has a negative impact on the environment and rubbish goes in the bin.

What - This week we looked at using stop motion to implement art integration. Making a video using household goods to represent sustainability. The stop motion videos that students had completed were reviewed. Some pieces of art had complex ideas and others had simple ideas, yet they all looked amazing.

So What - All the stop motions were different. Through this we were able to identify what worked and what didn't. We discussed the different media elements and concepts that students had already used in their art. I did not realise there were many concepts that formed media art. I learnt how to create stop motion art/media art and had fun doing it.

Now What - I understand that art and stories can be made by using anything that surrounds us, as art is everywhere. I can now see how simple it is to have fun and create art ideas. I will definitely use stop motion to allow students to tell their narratives in English. I would like to learn more about how art caters for diversity.

This activity was engaging yet challenging at the same time. I decided to choose a Kangaroo, as they are a native Australian mammal. There are many different movement that could be used to represent the kangaroo. The movements were used to represent the animals behaviours, movements and physical features.

I would love to implement this activity into the classroom. It would allow students to implement their own perspectives and creativity into creating their movements. However not all students are physically able to complete the activity. Leaving some students feeling left out and the class not being made inclusive for all students.

When completing the drama activity i feel that as a teacher i would need to ensure that the appropriate prior knowledge is taught before beginning the activity this will ensure the students are able to complete the activity. Students will also need to create their own movements that suit ability levels and allows students to feel included.

Kylie Salisbury

Above are the materials I am using for my stop motion.

What - In the tutorial the meaning and reasoning behind authentic arts integration was discussed and why it should be implemented into classrooms. The elements and principles of art forms were discussed in relation to visual art pieces. The importance of being able to complete art integration with integrity. There were geographical concepts that were explored through visual art. Look at creating art using the Wallas Model. While collecting household resources to use for the stop motion activity.

So What - I learnt how to integrate art with another subject such as Hass and how visual art can be represented in many ways. I was surprised that there is so many elements that form visual art. At the beginning i don't know an extensive amount about art and therefore am learning as i go. I liked being able to follow along with the slides and tutorial however would have preferred more examples. I learnt that it takes a creative process when making art, that have to be followed to get the final result. I also learnt about the geographical concepts that can be explored through visual art.

Now What - I would love to be able to delve deeper into the concepts and steps to creating art in the classroom. This can be completed through increasing background knowledge before beginning art activities. I would like to learn more about the geographical concepts and how to create meaning behind art.
