Later, after three days, she was temporarily transferred to the Chuquiabo Valley. As early as 1550, the location it currently has was made official. It is worth mentioning that despite the various attempts to take the city to other places, the geographical advantages of the Chuquiabo valley (some point out Chuquiago), have prevented all these proposals from prospering. The foundation of the city constitutes one of the oldest antecedents of this territorial and administrative unit. During the colony it existed like Corregimiento of La Paz integral of the Virreinato of Peru and later like integral province of the Real Audience of Charcas being incorporated to the Viceroyalty of Buenos Aires created in 1681. In 1782 its existence was defined in the form of Intendance of La Paz within the same Viceroyalty. The geographical definitions of the time are diffuse and refer to centralities and religious circumscriptions or settlements rather than to territorial landmarks as we know them today.4 In 1810 a new political and administrative organization was defined for the Audiencia de Charcas in which the existence of this political and administrative unit is defined under the name of La Paz province. With the establishment of the Republic was defined, according to the Political Constitution (November 19, 1826) the political and administrative division of Bolivian territory in Departments, provinces and cantons, thus emerging this administrative territorial unit within the framework of the Independence of Spain. During the following centuries the department underwent transformations in its internal organization related to the creation of new subdivisions (provinces) and new forms of territorial and political organization, the most important within the framework of the Laws of Popular Participation of 1994 and the Framework Law of Autonomies of 2010.
