She has worked for the university for 20 years in the catering department. She lives in Knightswood and has 3 grown up children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Cathy was due to retire last year but enjoys the company in work and the interaction with customers. The money also helps her and her husband who was diagnosed with COPD 2 years ago visit their daughter’s caravan in Dunoon as often as they can. Cathy was a bright girl at school and got good grades but did not pursue further education as she did not think it was for ‘people like her’. She likes to read the science section in the metro on the way to work on the bus but has never thought to find out more about what goes on in the building that she works in. Cathy has a little arthritis in her left knee and is tested regularly for glaucoma due to family history but is otherwise healthy and keeps active.

He is currently in 3rd year and is trying to decide what career he would like to pursue. Ali lives in Airdrie with his parents, 2 sisters and brother. Ali travels into university most days on the train but only attends when he has to as he has to help to look after his younger brother. On the days when Ali does attend uni he makes use of the peace and quiet in the library for work when he is not in class. Ali works in Asda on the weekends on the checkout. He likes the social interaction but sometimes finds juggling this with uni work challenging. Ali has to go into the new IHW building for 1 of his classes twice a week. He likes the airiness of the building but doesn’t pay too much attention as he is generally chatting with friends on the way to and from lectures. Ali enjoys going out with friends in Glasgow at the weekend clubbing and spends much of Sunday catching up on gossip on social media or playing COD when not studying.
