What it means to live deliberately or with intention?

To live life deliberately, one has to discover what they want in life. It could be something simple such as buying a house or something incredible like becoming the president of a nation. Their path the person takes to achieve their own is what I consider living with deliberately. In Into the Wild, McCandless made his choice to go on an adventure to the wilderness of Alaska and that was most likely his goal in life so he pursued it.

What does it mean to Alex (Chris) to live life with intention?

For Alex or Chris to live life with intention was to live a life that's unforgettable and full of wonderful adventures. Westerberg said that a lot of "people got attached to old Alex," and that he could "talk for hours," about his adventures. (Page 16) This was probably the life he was looking for, simple but still amazing. On page 22, it stated that "he intended to invent an utterly new life for himself, one in which he would be free to wallow in unfiltered experience." This sounded like he wanted to get away from society and experience and brand new life of his own.

In the book, Chris goes "Into the Wild" and lived with nature for a while. In "Nature" by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he explains his attitude towards nature. He believes that nature peaceful and the solution to all problems he has. "There I feel that nothing can befall me in life...which nature cannot repair," that's what Ralph thinks but Chris from "Into the Wild" had a different situation. Not only didn't nature fix his problems, but he also died in the wilderness.

I found chapter 8 the most useful part of the book so far. It gave us details on other people's adventure in Alaska such like Chris's. This really shows how dangerous the wilderness could be if a person is naïve and don't prepare well. This chapter reminded me to think twice before doing anything I'll regret in the future.

To live life with an intention to others is different from person to person. But Emerson from "Nature" and Chris from "Into the Wild" had similar thoughts. On page 23, it said that Chris "adopted a new name. No longer would he answer to Chris McCandless." This means that be didn't like the life he had before and decided to start a new one with a new identity. In "Nature," Emerson believes that life with nature is the best. He believes that nature can fix all his problems.

I really enjoy being in nature. It makes feel calm and the sceneries are beautiful but there's a downside to it. I hate being dirty and bug bites. In nature, those things are hard to avoid. No matter where you step, there's going to be a bug somewhere. On rainy days, there will be mud everywhere and it's difficult to avoid.

What Alex did was insanely risky just like Chris from Into the Wild but Alex was way more prepared than Chris. Alex's has been training for this and has done some climbs with ropes to prepare himself. Even though I believe that what Alex did was amazing, I also believe that it's dumb. One single mistake could end his life forever.

Many people, including me, said Chris was stupid for going into the wild and not preparing but we have no clue what he's going through. We don't know his thought process so we shouldn't judge him.

This family was the motive behind why he went into the wild finding for answers. Mrs. McCandless also goes into detail about her life and the problems he had to deal with. She also explained why English teachers assign us to read Into the Wild. It's not all about Chris, it's for us to figure out what we want to become.
