a flick book is a series of pages that very slightly change over a period of time to create a small story or to create an image at the end, flick book are very old a hold a history, The first flick book appeared in 1868 when it was patented by John Barnes Linnet under the name kineograph (Latin for “moving picture”). His kineograph was the first form of animation to use a linear sequence of images – like a booklet – rather than circular drums. These books can be any size, all depending on the size of the story you are trying to tell. They are for anyone typically speaking, however, i feel like they are aimed for a younger audience.

They are still very much used today, for many different reasons, they are another way of telling story's, or people with good drawing skills could make a simple animation with a flick book, they are still very useful and widely used.

SHORT DEFINITION
A flip book or flick book is a book with a series of pictures that very gradually change from one page to the next, so that when the pages are turned rapidly, the pictures appear to animate by simulating motion or some other change.

Why do we use rotoscoping?

The art of rotoscoping consists of drawing over live-action to produce your animation. The purpose of rotoscoping is either to animate a scene completely using a live-action reference, or to add animation to a live-action scene while tracking the movement of the camera and the live-action elements.

Is it still used today?

The art of rotoscoping consists of drawing over live-action to produce your animation. The purpose of rotoscoping is either to animate a scene completely using a live-action reference, or to add animation to a live-action scene while tracking the movement of the camera and the live-action elements.

How is it used?
The zoetrope consists of a cylinder with cuts vertically in the sides. On the inner surface of the cylinder is a band with images from a set of sequenced pictures. As the cylinder spins, the user looks through the cuts at the pictures across. The scanning of the slits keeps the pictures from simply blurring together, and the user sees a rapid succession of images, producing the illusion of motion. From the late 19th century, devices working on similar principles have been developed, named analogously as linear zoetropes and 3D zoetropes, with traditional zoetropes referred to as "cylindrical zoetropes" if distinction is needed.
