It is very important for children of color to be able to picture themselves when they are reading. I loved reading books about black girls when I was in elementary school because I could relate to them. I am mixed with black and white but I lived with my black side of the family. I wanted to read books where there were little black girls like me. I wanted them to be portrayed as I would be portrayed. I enjoyed this class because of the diversity I got to experience without.
